To whom it may concern

It is with deep sorrow we heard the sad news from Bagdad that the UN
High Commissioner for Human Rights, Sergio Vieira de Mello, had been
killed. The Swedish East Timor Committee strongly condemns the bomb
attack as well as all kinds of violence directed towards UN
personnel. Sergio's death is not only a tragedy for his family but
also a great loss for Brazil and the UN, in  particular in the
struggle for creating a world where human rights are widely
respected. Since Sergio served as Special Representative of the
Secretary-General in East Timor from 1999 until 2002, we will always
remember him as a good friend of the people of East Timor.
